Dear WHS Families,
We were able to dodge the weather this week as we head into February Break. I hope everyone is enjoying a beautiful sunny Valentine's Day! We return to school on Wednesday, February 19th and it will be a D Day. Teachers are in the process of talking with their students about next year's courses and making course recommendations. (th, 10th, and 11th graders will begin the Course Selection process on Tuesday, February 25th.
Career Connections:
On Tuesday, Feb. 11th, members of the Electric Boat Talent Acquisitions team visited WHS to offer an information session. Students in Grades 9 through 12 attended this meeting to learn about the mission of Electric Boat, its hiring process, wages, and benefits of establishing a career in the maritime submarine industry.
On Wednesday, February 26th, Seniors pursuing a career in welding and machining will apply to Electric Boat on EB Application Day at WHS.

Ninth Grade Medtronic Field Trip: On March 12, 2025, all 9th graders are invited to participate in a Career Connections field trip to the Medtronics plant in North Haven.
Medtronics manufactures medical robotics. Students will participate in design activities and learn about the variety of careers in manufacturing, including STEM, manufacturing, robotics, business and finance, health sciences, marketing, and more. Students will tour special design labs at Medtronics and learn about the medical surgical robots they make there. There will be something for everyone! We hope all 9th graders will be able to participate. Permission forms were sent home with students today and are due back at the school on February 24. Since Medtronics will be purchasing lunch for the students, please be sure to indicate any food allergies on the
permission form.
Student Activities:
On February 8th, members of the robotics team traveled to the University of New Haven for the final competition of the year. The team competed against 68 other teams and finished 27th. Additionally, the students were able to speak with engineers from Boston Dynamics, a robotics company that designs robots used in environmental monitoring and rescue scenarios. Students we also able to speak with University of New Haven students involved in a Mars Rover replica.
