2022 Coast Guard Band Concert

Westbrook High School Students recently attended a performance by the Coast Guard Band.

The program began with the National Anthem and a brief promo video for the Coast Guard. They followed with a slide show presentation explaining the musical form necessary to compose a march, after which they performed a march by John Phillip Sousa.

The largest portion of the program was titled Musical Pictures which featured the orchestral masterpiece Pictures at an Exhibition, by Modest Mussorgsky, transcribed and arranged for Wind Ensemble and set to images of the original paintings that inspired the work. They closed with the music from The Incredibles, which was a hit because school band students performed a version of that at their concert last May.

A special treat for everyone, due to us being the only high school group there today, was when the assistant director of the Coast Guard Band, Jeff Spenner, who led this performance, met our kids personally and answered student questions.
