What Students and Families Need to Know

At Westbrook High School, we value every minute of learning. Arriving on time ensures that students don't miss important instruction and have the best opportunity to succeed.

ARRIVING LATE TO SCHOOL

  • The school day begins promptly at 7:50 AM.
  • Students arriving after 7:50 AM must report to the main office before going to class to obtain an admission pass.
  • Any class time missed because a student arrives late to school will count toward the student's accumulated absences for that class unless there are extenuating circumstances approved by school administration.

TARDIES COUNT

  • Three (3) unexcused tardies to the same class = One (1) unexcused absence.
  • Time missed from class due to arriving late to school counts toward accumulated class absences unless an extenuating circumstance has been approved by school administration.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

  • Students must be present for more than half of a class period to be considered in attendance.
  • If a student misses more than half of a class, the student will be marked absent for that class.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCE FROM CLASS (CUTTING CLASS)

Students who are absent from class without authorization will be subject to the following:

  • First Offense: Parent/guardian notification, disciplinary consequences, and restorative practices meeting.
  • Second Offense: Parent/student conference, disciplinary consequences, and restorative practices meeting.
  • Third & Subsequent Offenses: Loss of credit, conference with the Attendance Appeals Committee, and disciplinary consequences.

EXCESSIVE TARDINESS MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF PRIVILEGES

Students with excessive tardiness may temporarily lose privileges at the discretion of school administration, including:

  • Senior Privileges
  • National Honor Society Privileges
  • Student Parking Privileges

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Families play an important role in helping students arrive at school on time each day. Establishing consistent morning routines and planning ahead can make a significant difference in student success.

BEING ON TIME MEANS MORE LEARNING, STRONGER ATTENDANCE, AND GREATER SUCCESS.

Thank you for partnering with Westbrook High School to support student achievement!
